nothing

chest a skeletal home, hollow to the bone
under the throat only lullabies sing
sleep, forget yourself, forget the being
forget it all
broken ribs are broken shards
scattered shrapnel digging into pulsing heart
see nothing but a void grey sky
miles of whispering grass, no soul in sight
don’t you lie to yourself, don’t try to hide
steel wires running through stilled veins
dig under marred broken skin
a breath of dusty air
trains of thought caught in tangled hair
there is nothing here.
